The Pink Caravan’s medical teams have made a significant stride in the right direction towards reaching their target of 5000 screening tests in 10 days, with the completion of 1500 screening tests in the first three days of the campaign which kicked off last Thursday, 5th of April. The Pink Caravan’s medical committee expects an increase in the number of applicants for the free breast cancer early detection tests in the coming few days as the medical clinics will move to Khorfakkan, Sharjah and Ajman, respectively. The Pink Caravan’s riders made a horseback tour throughout the emirate of Fujairah to Khorfakkan. The riders will arrive in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday, while the medical teams will be present in the old Kalba Hospital, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, and Khalifa Hospital in Ajman. Speaking about the Pink Caravan’s activities in its first 4 days, Cecile Guillemot, head of the Pink Caravan’s Higher Committee and one of the volunteer riders, said: “There is a great deal of organization and punctuality in the Pink Caravan’s activities this year. We have also a large number of clinics, elite riders, great support from the public and private sectors and excellent participation from prominent figures in the UAE community, which enriches the Pink Caravan, adds momentum and is helping it to expand and reach every house in the UAE”. She added: “The popularity of the outreach would not have been possible without the support of public and private organizations, including Sharjah Islamic Bank, the official partner of the Pink Caravan, Barclays Bank, the official partner of the Pink Caravan’s ambassador program, the Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Sharjah Transport, Bank of Sharjah, Lifeline, Roche, Reebok, Tim Hortons, Alaan TV, the media sponsor, Explorer, Golden Horse Stables and many more who have significantly contributed to make the campaign a success”. Pink Caravan’s campaign will run annually until 2014, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and under the directives of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs. The Pink Caravan’s ride started in Sharjah on 5th of April and will culminates in Abu Dhabi on 14th of April. The Pink Caravan has over 180 riders divided into 15 – 18 riders daily, including the Pink Caravan’s ambassadors. The Pink Caravan’s ride aims to spread greater awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular tests, and raise funds to buy a 3D mammogram clinic, which will provide free tests for citizens and expatriates in the country.
