Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) is being recognised again for its commitment to quality cardiovascular care, taking part in the American College of Cardiology's (ACC's) ‘International Centres of Excellence' Program.
The new program has been designed to recognise hospitals that have made a commitment to high standards of medical practice and a dedication to continuous quality improvement.
"SKMC's commitment to patients is at the forefront of everything we do at our hospital. A vast part of this commitment is ensuring that we are continuing to further our knowledge and access to up-to-the-minute best practice and outcomes analysis to improve patient care. Our cardiac care team is among the best in the country, and we are driven to continue this legacy," said Dr. Abdulmajeed Al Zubaidi, Cardiologist and Chief Medical Officer at SKMC, and certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
SKMC has a history of demonstrating excellence in the field of cardiac care, with a one-of-a-kind paediatric cardiac surgery program and electrophysiology service, as well as its recognition in 2013 as a Cycle IV Chest Pain Centre - among just a handful of institutions around the world with this designation, and the only such institute outside of the United States.
"By participating in the ACC registries on heart disease, we can look at our data and benchmark ourselves against US institutions to see how well we are doing. This program is all about quality, and we aim to provide the highest quality cardiac services to our patients," said Dr. Wael Al Mahmeed, Chief of Adult Cardiology at SKMC, also certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
The ACC's new International Centres of Excellence program provides access to an ACC Data Registry along with access to educational resources designed to help keep physicians, nurses and other members of the cardiac care team up-to-date on the latest best practices and scientific research so that they can make the best decisions with their patients.
"SKMC is demonstrating a commitment to improving the quality of care given to patients worldwide, by ensuring the entire cardiovascular team is well-informed and has access to data and decision-support tools they can use to make the best care decisions possible," said ACC President Patrick T. O'Gara. "The ACC is committed to transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health, and hospitals using tools like ACC's Data Registries and educational resources help us make that mission a reality." SKMC, managed by Cleveland Clinic, is part of the SEHA HealthSystem and owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
