Spain reactivates emergency protocol after first Ebola virus case reported

Spain announced the reactivation of the emergency protocol after a female Spanish nurse has tested positive for Ebola virus. This is the first confirmed case of a person being infected Ebola virus in Europe.
Addressing a press conference Monday night, Spanish Minister of Health Ana Mato Adrover said that the nurse was infected with Ebola virus when she, along with a medical team, was treating Priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who died of the deadly virus on September 25 at Carlos III Hospital in Madrid.
She said the nurse has been hospitalized since the early hours of Monday to undergo two separate medical tests which were positive.
Adrover pointed out that the ministry took all required measures to avoid the spread of the virus, saying there is integrated coordination among local and international institutions to moniter the developments of the virus and face any possible Ebola-infected case.
The minister said that there was an investigation with officials of Carols Hospital to know the reasons of nurse's infection.
All required measures, she emphasized, were taken to protect hospital's employees and patients as well as citizens from the virus, noting the ministry contacted with the all members of the nurse's family to report if there is any change in their bodies.
She confirmed that medical conditions of the team's members, who were caring for patients at Carlos Hospital in the last period, would be constantly monitored to report any suspected case being infected with the virus.
