UK dispatches 100 soldiers more to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone

The British Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday a dispatchment of about 100 additional soldiers to Sierra Leone to support international efforts to combat Ebola.
The soldiers, along with some Canadian personnel, left Brize Norton base in Oxfordshire earlier in the day on their way to Sierra Leone where there are more than 800 British soldiers, said a statement by the ministry.
The new batch of soldiers would manage a 12-bed unit designed for treating health workers in Sierra Leone, the statement said, noting that the soldiers concluded last week intensive training courses on how to transfer and treat people infected with the Ebola.
British efforts contributed to setting up healthcare centers with a capacity of more than 700 beds, it said, noting that British aid is estimated at more than 230 million pound Sterling since the outbreak of the virus.
The UK also dispatched, along with scores of troops, a military vessel equipped with a hospital and three military helicopters to transfer doctors and medicines to the remote areas in the country, it pointed out.
