The US announced Tuesday its plan to increase humanitarian assistance to West Africa and help combat the Ebola virus including assistance from nongovernmental organizations, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Defense (DOD).
"Secretary (of Defense) Hagel has approved the deployment of a 25-bed hospital facility, equipment, and the support necessary to establish the facility," said State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf.
"These are conversations we have that are ongoing with the folks on the ground, determining what they need, how we can help," Harf said, adding: "It's a huge challenge, though."
