The Health Centre at the American University in Dubai (AUD) celebrated the “World Health Day” by setting medical checkup booths on campus. Students, faculty and staff from the university assembled throughout the day to learn about the associated risks of an unhealthy lifestyle and the protective methods applied for a better and healthier living. On the importance of organising awareness campaigns related to preventive illnesses, Nelly Halabi, director of the AUD Health Centre, commented: “Our mission is to prevent illness and to maintain the wellbeing of staff and students. We are constantly organising awareness activities related to diseases that we can prevent. Even during this century, there are people who are still dying from preventive illnesses. Our students are the future, therefore our role is to educate them and provide them with proper awareness to help us reduce the number of deaths related to preventive illnesses around the world.” Free check-ups Licensed physicians and practitioners from Dr Nicholas & ASP Clinic offered free dental checkups. Specialists from the American Hospital covered the running Pulse Oxymetry and Lung Capacity tests on site, including Vitamin D tests offered by their Laboratory Department. Among the examination compartments, a vision test consultation stand was presented by Abdul Hadi Clinic. During the event, Dr Makkawi from Al Biraa Clinic worked with experts on the wellbeing and the “Better Life” programme: BMI, Body Fat examination and Family Medicine Consultation. Participating AUD members were also able to talk to Charlotte Dibo from Dubai Police Health Centre, who provided them with information about neck, back and injury problems.
