At least 10 people went missing while 37 people were rescued after a boat capsized in the Koshi River in Prakashpur area of Sunsari district in eastern Nepal on Saturday, a local police officer confirmed on Sunday.
Posh Raj Pokharel at District Police, deputy superintendent of police office at Sunsari District Police Office told Xinhua on Sunday that they confirmed the identity of 10 people who have been missing after the boat capsized.
"We are still in verification process if more people travelled on the boat," he said.
Locals of Prakashpur and security personnel had rescued drowning 37 people instantly after the boat misshaped in the river, according to Nepalese authorities. "All rescued people are in good health condition now," said Pokharel.
The boat was heading towards Prakashpur from Sri Lanka Tapu (Island) with around 45 passengers on board.
The boat had capsized after water current of the biggest river of Nepal hit the boat hard, according to Mohan Bahadur Chapagain, chief district officer of Sunsari.
After the incident, the local authority of Nepal has been continuing search operation of those missing. "However, trace of none of those missing has been found yet," said Pokharel.
