Cairo - Akram Ali
The Qasr El-Nil General Prosecution, headed by Mohamed Abdel Shafi sent 31 defendants to prison for rioting, and setting a police car on fire. They will be detained for four days during investigations. Violent clashes took place in the streets that lead to the US embassy between protesters and police officers who were guarding the embassy. This was due to the protesters condemning the US film which criticised the Prophet. Security police arrested the defendants in the events of the clashes near the US embassy in Garden City, after the prosecutor accused them of sabotaging public and private property, assaulting police officers and rioting.
