Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi decided on Sunday to launch a wide security campaign to search for rocket launchers and mortars, after the Green Zone in central Baghdad was shelled with Katyusha rockets fired from the east side of the capital without casualties.
A statement issued from the office of al-Abadi said that the Prime Minister chaired the ministerial council for national security meeting, where the council discussed the "achievements of our heroes and preparations to cleanse the rest of Nineveh, as well as the events that took place Saturday in the demonstrations and its aftermath."
The statement continued, "In the time that pays tribute to the Council the performance of the security forces, we renew our commitment to provide security and safety of peaceful protesters who were not part of the confrontation with the security forces, it was also guidance for the Baghdad Operations Command, in coordination with the joint operations to carry out inspections campaigns in Iraqi cities, especially Baghdad."
