Fatah central committee member Mahmoud al-Aloul said Saturday that the Palestinian leadership is growing increasingly frustrated with unfulfilled American promises on the peace process. Al-Aloul made the remarks during a welcoming ceremony speech for a Jordanian delegation. "When the US and the Israeli occupation get upset that means that we are heading in the right direction, we will reapply to have full membership at the UN," al-Aloul said. Head of the Jordanian delegation Bassam Haddadeen said that establishing an independent state of Palestinian land is an essential component of Jordanian policy. Bi-lateral relations between both sides is also a key part of Jordanian foreign policy, Hadadeen added. Palestinian officials said last week that they were studying the latest developments in their bid for admission as a full member of the UN, after a Security Council committee reported it had reached an impasse on Palestine's application. The US has vowed to veto the bid if it comes to a Security Council vote, saying the move undermines a negotiated solution to the conflict. Palestinian leaders say they have little to show for over 20 years of negotiations, but are ready to return to talks if Israel halts building settlements on land needed for a viable independent Palestine.
