Cairo - Mohammad al-Shanawi

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Al-Arabi, has stressed that the Palestinian State must be recognized on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital. Al-Arabi said in a press statement on Monday evening that talks are still in progress between the Arab states regarding the next steps to be taken towards the General Assembly of the United Nations or the United Nations Security Council. He added that the stance of the United Nations would be tantamount to a declaration that the time has come to end this conflict, stressing that this move does not go against Israel. Al-Arabi added: "This is a step towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace. It is not true that it is a biased step by Arab countries. Peace will only be achieved if the two parties sit at one table together to end the conflict, and therefore there must be a state for the Palestinians" It has been reported that Al-Arabi has just embarked on a tour led by Foreign Minister, Alain Juppé, during which he will meet a number of French officials, with the purpose of mobilizing support for Palestine and the Arab countries heading to the United Nations.
