The Islamic Research Academy, headed by al-Azhar, decided in an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning not to participate in the panel that is to formulat Egypt's new constitution. The decision was taken with the unanimous consensus of the academy's members as they renewed their rejection for the second time since last Thursday. They condemned the visit of the chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Mohamed Morsi, and the party’s secretary-general MP Mohamed al-Beltagi to appease al-Azhar so it may return to the constiutional assembly, stating that it was necessary for the Brotherhood's Supreme Guide Mohammed Badie himself to attend.
