Algerian ministers in the government of Abdul-Malik Salal withdrew their documents submitted to the electoral commission to run for the coming parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held in May.
The ministers are the Algerian Health Minister, Abdelmalek Boudiaf, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Boudjemaa talai and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Abdul Salam Chalghoum.
Official sources have suggested in the press statements for, Arabs Today, the possibility of withdrawal of the doucuments of other ministers in the next few hours.
The Secretary-General of the ruling party in Algeria, Djamel Ould Abbas, had earlier announced, in a press statement, nominating eight of the current ministers.
The list including Minister of Relations with Parliament Ghania Aadalia, Minister of Health, Minister of Transport, Minister of Tourism and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as eight former ministers, most notably the former minister of communication, Moussa Ben Hamadi, Transport Minister, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Rachid Harraoubia, Minister of Finance and Minister of Culture Nadia Labidi.
This issue sparked a great debate in the political arena, and the opposition demanded the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to prevent ministers from running in the election.
The leader of the opposition's leftist Workers Party in Algeria, urrged the President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to prevent government ministers from running to ensure the integrity of the parliamentary elections.
