Kabul - Agencies

Global human rights campaign group Amnesty International has announced it will launch a report on February 23 highlighting the plight of hundreds of thousands of people in Afghanistan who reportedly live in slum-like conditions after escaping their homes and villages due to conflict.   A record high of half a million Afghans are now internally displaced. "‘Fleeing war, finding misery: The plight of the internally displaced in Afghanistan’ reveals the misery faced by thousands of men, women, and children who live in makeshift dwellings with poor access to food, water, sanitation, health services and education," said Amnesty in a statement. The report will include a series of recommendations to the Afghan authorities and their international allies on how to respond to the growing humanitarian crisis, before the country’s modest development gains are undone.
