Informed sources in Nouakchott stated that Al-Qaeda Organisation in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) targeted an official convoy on the Malian borders, Sunday, consisting of two vehicles belonging to the Mauritanian authorities. The attack resulted in the injury of civilian and military Mauritanians at the Mauritanian-Malian borders, near Fasala district, north Mali. Major Ahmad Ould Amin and customs officer Didi Ould Maayouf were among the four wounded in the attack, the source added. The wounded were moved to the nearest hospital, before an airplane arrived to move them to a hospital in Nouakchott. Some sources believe that the incident was merely a road accident on the route taken by the delegation while visiting Malian refugees in Mauritania.
