There are currently at least 151 refugee children regarded as missing by Austrian authorities, the Interior Ministry confirmed Monday.
Ministry spokesperson Karl-Heinz Grundboeck told the Austria Press Agency that in both 2015 and so far in 2016 a total 193 persons aged under 14 were reported missing from the Traiskirchen refugee centre, through which most refugee children pass.
A number of 42 of this total have since been located again.
He further noted that it is assumed that many of the missing children have travelled onward to other EU countries.
As the Dublin agreement is often not applicable to minors, Grundboeck says he assumes many of the children have ended up in neighboring Germany.
