A powerful blast was heard in Egypt's border town of Rafah of the eastern North Sinai governorate. The blast took place in an uninhabited area were an army camp is found, local residents told Arabstoday, adding that only a small fire was seen after the blast. However, the local residents said that eight army tanks and four armoured vehicles rushed to the place where the blast was heard and swept the area for two hours. Other tanks went to the church of the power station of the town. Heavy gunshots - probably shot by army soldiers - were heard for hours after the blast. Security sources said that the blast was probably a result of a landmine which exploded as large amount of garbage put over was set on fire by the people. Medical sources affirmed that there were no casualties reported. Rafah is one of the towns were the Jihadist fighters have strong presence in. The latest blast raised fears among the residents of possible threats against the big crowds that will gather in the town on Friday morning to do the Muslims Eid al-Adha prayers.
