Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika called on Prime Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune to end the chaos in government initiatives, in a rare presidential warning to the latter who said that he is implementing a policy of the president's directives. Bouteflika's warning to Tebboune came at the height of the controversy over investigations against influential businessmen, who seem to enjoy the support of a top bodies.
Bouteflika pointed out that the government's campaign against the businessmen carried a defamatory character that painted a bad image among foreign observers of the investment climate in Algeria. He regretted the exaggerated marketing nature of the recent decisions taken by the government, which gave the impression to the national and international public opinion that there is an official campaign organized against economic dealers.
The Algerian President also reminded his prime minister, who spends his holidays in France, that there are legal and regulatory frameworks to address any deviations, calling on the government to avoid useless publicity and focus on creating a calm atmosphere that allows economic progress in an encouraging atmosphere.
Bouteflika's directives coincided with the recent state of tension between Tebboune and the head of the business forum, Ali Haddad, while recent indications suggested that the prime minister had lost several points in his fight against businessmen.
