Cairo – Akram Ali

Calm has returned to Cairo’s Tahrir Square, on Saturday morning after the political parties and movements that participated in the million-man protest on Friday of ‘Regaining Honor’  decided to leave the Square. Meanwhile, some demonstrators tried to reopen Tahrir Square for Traffic, and make the central park of the Square an area for demonstration and sit-in. The Coordinator of the Free Front for Peaceful Change, Essam Al-Shareif announced ending of the Friday of Honor, confirming that some activists will stay in the central park as symbolic sit-in solidarity with families of martyrs, injured, and political prisoners. While, the Revolutionary Youth Union had confirmed that the Union continues Tahrir Square sit-in until the SCAF accepts handing over the power to civilians. For its part, the April 6 movement announced the ending of Friday of regaining honor in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and all Egypt’s squares, in which they denounced the military violence against protesters during the past week, and called the SCAF to hand over the power after the parliamentary elections. In a statement, April 6 movement said that, it prepares for a mass demonstration in the first anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, to call for handing over the power for civilians. The movement also called all the political parties and movements in Egypt to unite and keep their revolution peaceful as it is. On the other hand, the organizers of the counter-demonstration in Cairo’s Abassya Square announced the ending of the ‘no to sabotage’ demonstrations, in which they showed their support for SCAF and called on Tahrir demonstrators to wait until the presidential elections.
