Benghazi - Masyah al-Sa'di

The Director of the Information Office of the Revolution of the 17th February, Ali Bin Saoud, has denied reports by news agencies and websites that Major General Abdul Fatah Younis, Chief of Staff of the rebel movement, has been killed. He confirmed in a telephone conversation with Benghazi newspaper "Al-Misri Al-Yawm" that Younis is still alive, and that he was present on the frontline of the fighting against Gaddafi near Brega. Bin Saoud made the telephone call with a number of field commanders who accompanied Younis on the frontline, to deny the reports which the Information Centre of the Revolution of 17th February described as lies spread by Gaddafi and his colleagues as a type of psychological warfare waged in an attempt to undermine the resolve of the rebels, after their impressive progress on the ground. The news sites and agencies issued reports on Sunday claiming that Major General Abdul Fatah Younis, Chief of General Staff of the National Army of the opposition in Libya, was killed a combat zone in Brega ten days ago in mysterious circumstances. The Lebanese site "Sidon" quoted journalist Asad Amnia Abuqila as confirming this fact. It should be noted that there have been three assassination attempts on Major General Abdel Fattah Younis since he left Gaddafi's side to join the rebels.
