Thailand's Department of Probation Monday took 100 convicted drunk drivers to work in a Bangkok's hospital morgue.

As part of punishments for drunk drivers and repeated traffic offenders, the program was launched since Thailand's water festival in April, during which heavy drinking is common as the festival nicknamed the "Seven Deadly Days" because of a significant increase in traffic accidents.

Prasarn Mahaleetrakul, deputy director of the Department of Probation unveiled that there have been 1733 drunk drivers sent to work in 47 hospital wards during the last two months.

He believes that the morgue shock treatment plan could be more effective than community service activities that convicted drunk drivers were made to paint traffic signs and help the elderly.

According to the World Health Organization, about 24,000 people die each year on Thailand roads, 2.3 people die and 160 injure per hour during the water
