Cairo - Akram Ali

The Egyptian leadership, sponsor of the reconciliation agreement between the Fatah and Hamas movements, succeeded in persuading the two sides during their meeting on Wednesday at the headquarters of General Intelligence, to activate the Palestinian Legislative Council, in accordance with previous agreements. A press statement by the Egyptian leadership seen by Arabstoday, stated that it was agreed by both Fatah and Hamas,  that Egypt would follow up the work of the freedoms committees in  the West Bank and Gaza Strip together with the community reconciliation commission,  in order to accelerate their work to create a positive atmosphere to implement the reconciliation agreement in accordance with "the Egyptian paper" signed by all Palestinian factions, leading to the presidential, legislative and Palestinian national council elections. A delegation from Fatah and Hamas met Wednesday evening, sponsored by officials from the Egyptian general intelligence service headed by Major General Murad Muwafi, to discuss mechanisms and suggest names to become members of the next Palestinian government as well as to prepare the meeting of President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) with head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, Khaled Meshaal, on June 20 to complete the final formation of the national consensus government.
