Cairo - AFP

The Egyptian justice ministry's fraud unit on Thursday slapped a travel ban on ousted president Hosni Mubarak's two daughters-in-law and their children, a judicial official told AFP. Assem al-Gohari, who heads the Illicit Gains Authority, ordered the ban on Heidi Rasekh and Khadiga al-Gammal, the wives of Mubarak's sons Alaa and Gamal, said the official, confirming a previous travel ban issued in February. Gohari on Thursday also banned their children from travel. The decision comes after it was revealed the two received properties from former housing minister Ibrahim Suleiman, who was referred to a criminal court on Thursday on corruption charges. Rasekh and Gammal were interrogated in late April over their wealth and that of the former president, and released after several hours of questioning. Mubarak and his sons are to face trial on August 3 on charges of ordering the killing of protesters during an uprising that toppled the veteran leader. They, along with a host of former ministers, are also facing trial for graft. The Illicit Gains Authority has conducted a series of interviews with Mubarak, his family and former regime officials as part of a sweeping probe into corruption by the country's new military rulers. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces took power on February 11 after mass nationwide protests ended Mubarak's 30-year reign. The former president is currently in custody at a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh where he has been since suffering heart problems during questioning. His sons Alaa and Gamal are being held in south Cairo's Tora prison, where the Mubarak regime jailed political dissidents.
