The president’s former consultant for security affairs, Salah Abdallah Gosh, has said on Friday that Sudan is able to overcome any challenges which are thrown at it, adding that his country is ready to face any potential threats. Gosh speaking during a celebration in the northern town of Meroe where his electoral constituency is based, said that the authorities who are keeping the peace in the country are ready to face any aggression against the dignity and sovereignty of Sudan. He also commended the support of the Sudanese people towards the armed forces during the South’s assault on Heglig, noting the need to learn from that situation in overcoming future challenges. Gosh also described the continuation of dialogue and communication with all political powers as important and necessary. Gosh had said earlier that his being away from the political work were for reasons that he would reveal later, and affirmed that he is faithful to his party, its policies and programmes. The Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, had moved Gosh from his position as general manager of state security in 2009 and appointed him as his security advisor. However al-Bashir dismissed him in 2011 after disagreements between Gosh and al-Bashir's assistant, Nafei Ali Nafei.
