The Palestinian attorney general , Ahmed Moghney, has asked Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris as chairman of the Orascom investment group to freeze trading in stocks that belong to a former economic adviser to the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mohammed Rashid (known as Khalid al-Islam), and a member of the Central Committee of Fatah, Mohammed Dahlan. Moghney said in a letter addressed to Sawiris that the demand was based on a decision by the Palestinian anti-corruption court on June 7 in case No 13/2012, sanctioned by the powers conferred to him as an attorney general. He told Sawiris: "We hope that you will work on the confiscation and not to dispose the stocks or the money or any private property owned by Mohammed Rashid until a legal action is taken to restore such funds to the PA public treasury." "We also ask you to reserve all funds, stocks or any other private property owned by Mr Mohammed Dahlan at any of your companies because he is under investigation by the anti-corruption commission in order to maintain those funds until the completion of procedures," he added. In turn, the leader of Fatah movement, Mohammed Dahlan , denied the charges on his personal account on Facebook what was stated in the letter of Palestinian attorney general , saying: "I do not own any alleged assets or shares or investments in Orascom group , nor in any other company in Egypt. If the financial assistance which I offer to our people provokes Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and those around him, I confirm that I will continue in proudly doing that and serving our people and the country’s institutions." "I say to Abbas, that you had already issued a decision to freeze my alleged funds in Jordan, and you and the Kingdom of Jordan know that I do not have any accounts or property there. I advise Abbas to stay away from this nonsense that he is dragging himself into and pay attention to the project which aims to liquidise our cause in his reign. You should work hard through uniting the forces of our people. Palestine is bigger than you and all of us," he added. "I confirm that I will not be engaged in any media debates that may distort our cause and our movement (Fatah). One day, all the files will be presented in front of our people and their representatives and in front of a real attorney general, without blackmail. The Palestinian people shall know then who has stolen its money and participated in its suffering," he concluded.
