Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui Monday attended the annual meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Six-Member Committee on Palestine, on the sidelines of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The FM said Tunisia constantly supports the Palestinian people so that they recover their legitimate rights, including the right to an independent state with eastern Al-Quds as capital, pursuant to international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.
He also urged the international community to "act urgently to halt Israeli settlement building and the Gaza Strip blockade" and highlighted the importance which Tunisia lends to international efforts geared to getting the Middle East peace process back on track, notably the French peace conference initiative, the Foreign Ministry Wednesday said in a press release.
Jhinaoui likewise invited lenders and concerned UN agencies to step up efforts to support the Palestinian people and provide the financial resources required for the revamp of the Palestinian Authority's institutions and for achieving development. Tunisia is committed to offer a contribution, he underscored in this respect.
The meeting was held in the presence of Palestinian Premier Rami Hamdallah, US Secretary of State John Kerry, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman.
