Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui met, Monday, on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini.
The two officials "reiterated commitment to deepen partnership and foster relations between Tunisia and the EU in all fields," according to a Foreign ministry press release, Wednesday.
Jhinaoui called for increasing the European assistance to Tunisia to support its efforts to overcome economic difficulties and invited Mogherini to attend the international conference on investment due November 29-30 in Tunisia. The EU high representative confirmed her participation, the same source specified.
The meeting turned on "fight against terrorism and radicalisation." The two sides agreed on the importance of reinforcing co-operation in this field, the press release adds.
They also discussed "regional issues of mutual interest, notably, the situation in Libya." Jhinaoui pointed to "need for internal dialogue to reach a long-lasting political solution in this country."
In another connection, the FM met with Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Minister for the Middle East and Africa) Tobias Ellwood who asserted his country's will to keep on supporting Tunisia in various fields.
The British official confirmed his country's participation in the Tunis international conference on investment and affirmed its will to review its travel ban on Tunisia, "taking into consideration the efforts exerted by Tunisia in the security field and in countering terrorism."
