Cairo – Mohamed Alshinnawi

Egypt Judicial sources in Cairo revealed videos as part of the evidence material against Mubarak, where he was seen inciting the killing of protestors during the 25th January revolution. The General Intelligence Services for Egypt (GIS) presented the court dealing with the Mubarak trial 193 video tapes which include images of protestors being shot at in Tahrir square by security forces, at the same time as an official report from regulators revealed a list containing the full assets of Mubarak and his family of secret accounts in local banks, properties, shares and land abroad without registering them with the tax office.   The videos also show snipers of the Ministry of Interior, which current Minister of Interior Mansour el-Essawi denies the existence of, in addition to denying what the media calls “Camel Battle.” A witness said that the GIS keeps numerous cameras in Tahrir square which film 24 hours a day from a secret room in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which is directly connected to the GIS base. The witness, who works as a manager at the museum, said that the GIS used to ask employees in the secret room to adjust the angles of filming in time accordance with the developments of the revolution in order to get everything, visual and audio, on tape just as it happens. Sources in Cairo believe that the videos will presents new evidence with further charges of Mubarak and other on trial.   The report containing Mubarak’s assets was marked as “Top Secret” it was leaked to the Egyptian media and it contained details about Mubarak owning 5 luxury villas in one of Sharm El Sheikh’s most up market areas, in addition to 50% shares in SLEC, the largest Egyptian mediation in the stock market and ownership of a large number of pieces of land allocated by direct order from the State Associations for construction and housing. The report came after the first public altercation between Mubarak and the ruling Supreme Council of the armed forces, when the Supreme Council’s spokesperson described the accusations by Mubarak towards Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi where he accused him of being responsible for cutting off communications through the internet, as “nonsense and polemics.” Political circles in Egypt believe that Mubarak embarked on hiding his money during the revolution so that it cannot be traced; except the Swiss government’s decision to freeze possible Mubarak bank accounts in all Swiss banks restored Egyptian people’s hopes that money stolen by Mubarak and his family may be returned to them.  The Lawyers Union in Egypt formed a committee to receive information and reports on money smuggled out of Egypt. In addition, Egyptian activists contacted corruption combating bodies and organization abroad in a bid to trace monies smuggled out of Egypt by Mubarak and his family.   On the other hand, the legal community is expecting a huge surprise as the trial of Habib Al Adly resumes, as sources have revealed that Al Adly’s former head of central security forces Ahmed Ramzi, who is accused of killing protestors, will present the court with documents disclosing that the policemen who opened fire on protestors on the 25th and 28th January and during the revolution do not belong to the central security forces but belong to the Rioting Break-up Troops of the different police directorates and the Ministry of Interior. It also revealed that Ramzi will accuse the Minister of Interior of “running his own militias to kill protestors away from the Ministry’s and security forces’ laws.”
