Iraqi Federal Police and Popular Mobilization Forces have accomplished their mission in western Talafar, taking over the districts of al Qadisiya and al Rabie.
Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah, head of the Joint Operations Command’s field task, said Saturday that Operation "We're Coming Talafar!" is still ongoing with the aim to liberate other districts from Daesh.
Talafar lies on the supply route between Syria and the former Daesh stronghold of Mosul.
The fall of Mosul effectively marked the end of the self-proclaimed caliphate declared by Daesh terrorist group over parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014.
Talafar was cut off from the rest of Daesh-held territory in June.
