An Iraqi security source declared that the Director of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior Intelligence, General Mahdi Fakiki was arrested on Tuesday on charges of leaking confidential information to Vice President Tariq Al-Hashemi. The source, who wished to remain anonymous, told "Arabstoday” that authorities had earlier detained a lieutenant named Ali Tariq deployed in Baghdad's Ghazaliya area. Tariq reportedly confessed that General Fakiki sent security information to Al-Hashemi after the latter sought refuge in Kurdistan. The lieutenant was sent several times by the General to Arbil and was provided with phone numbers on each occassion to call him. Someone would then answer and connect him to Al-Hashemi to arrange the handover of a flash-drive containing the leaked information. The lieutenant said that he was requested by Fakiki to monitor the movement of the main investigating judge in Al-Hashemi’s case.
