High ranking al-Qaeda leader Abu Nasr al-Jahali was arrested southeast of Tikrit, Iraq, in a military operation led by the Salah al-Din unit, officials said. Col. Majid al-Haryan told al-Shorfa newspaper Saturday Jahali was allegedly involved in the killings of scores of civilians and security personnel since 2009. Jahali took over the direction of al-Qaeda in the region after Abu Nagham al-Hayyani's arrest by armed forces in November 2011. Al-Shorfa quoted Haryan as saying the army seized an explosives vest and 20 hand grenades in the operation.
