Kuczynski tops list of most powerful figures in Peru

More than half of Peruvians consider their president, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, as the most powerful person in the country.

Kuczynski won 55 percent of the vote in a poll published on Monday by the consultancy firm Datum International.

Kuczynski assumed the Peruvian presidency on July 28, after defeating Keiko Fujimori, the candidate of the opposition Popular Force party.

Another recent survey showed Kuczynski's approval rating was 70.4 percent.

Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori who is serving a 25-year prison term for corruption and crimes against humanity, is considered the second most powerful person in Peru with 16 percent of the vote in Datum's survey.

The Popular Force party controls Peru's congress with 73 lawmakers out of a total of 130.

Dionisio Romero, president of Peru's Banco de Credito, the largest bank in the country, and Nadine Heredia, former President Ollanta Humala's wife, were both ranked third with 3 percent of the vote respectively, Datum's survey showed.

Former President Alan Garcia, cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, and Alberto Fujimori's former presidential adviser Vladmiro Montesinos who is currently imprisoned, are also among Datum's list of Peru's powerful figures.
