The problem of extremism and terrorism cannot be solved by using force only, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said Friday.
Atambayev made the remarks in a letter to an international anti-terrorism conference, which opened Thursday in Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul oblast.
In his letter, Atambayev said in the modern world there are those that use the tools created for the benefit of mankind against the peaceful coexistence of people, countries and regions. He said one of the modern methods of warfare is the use of communication technologies by terrorist and extremist groups.
"In Kyrgyzstan, there is a clear awareness that only by use of force the problem of extremism and terrorism cannot be solved," Atambayev said.
However, Kyrgyz special services in cooperation with other countries had succeeded in preventing a number of terrorist acts and acts of sabotage in the country, the president said.
The two-day meeting, attended by experts from 20 countries and international organizations, is aimed at discussing the challenges and threats posed by international terrorist organizations amid the rapid development of mass media, among other topics
