Sources in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli have revealed details about a Jordanian man, Abdel Malik Mohammed Yousef Osman Abdulsalam, who has admitted belonging to al-Qaeda. Abdulsalam was living in Tehran from where he was extradited to Syria and shortly afterwards, came to Lebanon. He was arrested on his way to the Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut, and during interrogation, he confessed to being a member of al-Qaeda. The Jordanian said he worked in the field of logistics and that he had received money from several figures in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, according to the London-based newspaper Al-Hayat. Abdulsalam said he received twenty thousand US Dollars from a Qatari sheikh from the al-Atiyah family, who underwent a kidney transplant in Lebanon a few weeks ago. The Qatari sheikh has since been detained and was transferred to al-Hayat hospital under tight security measures. He is accused of financing the Syrian Revolution. Investigations reportedly revealed that Abdulsalam had continuous contacts with al-Qaeda-linked figures in Afghanistan.
