The Libyan army on Saturday accused Turkey of aiding and arming terrorist groups in the country.
In statements earlier in the day, Libya’s army spokesperson Mohamed Hegazy said that Turkish vessels had been detected over the past few days shipping anti-aircraft rockets to “Muslim Brotherhood-linked and terrorist groups”.
A ship carrying anti-aircraft missiles coming from Turkey has entered the territorial waters before being targeted by jet fighters off Bengazi shores, Hegazy added.
Libya has been witnessing a rising insurgency by different rebel groups and militias and an increasing use of weapons since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
