Tripoli – Emad Agag

An informed French source, has said that three requests had been submitted to the Mauritanian government so far, for the extradition of Abdullah al-Senussi to Libya. Senussi, was the one responsible for security and intelligence in the Gaddafi regime and is accused of several crimes, such as the bombing of a UTA French plane in 1989 over the Niger desert. The source, said that Nouakchott had received the requests from Paris, Tripoli and the International Criminal Court in Hague; however it said Mauritania would not respond to them. The source expected the non-extradition of Senussi to Libya, as the Mauritanian relations with the new Libyan regime are not good. The head of the Libyan National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, had said a few days ago that Libyan-Mauritanian relations are subject to the delivery of Senussi to Tripoli. Informed sources, expected that Mauritania would finally resort to the delivery of the Libyan to the International Criminal Court, which wants him on charges of crimes against humanity through the repression of the Libyan uprising, which ended in  October 2011.
