An inter-ministerial commission will be set up to coordinate and evaluate governmental policies to as a means of ensuring coherence and enhancing the effectiveness of governmental strategies, announced head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani during a parliamentary session on August 1.

The commission, whose inauguration date wasnot specified, “will be responsible for coordinating public policies in order to develop the necessary tools to evaluate their effectiveness and impact on [citizens],” announced the head of the government.

The new inter-ministerial commission will be chaired by the head of government as president of the administration and the head of its programs, El Othmani explained during the monthly session devoted to public policy in the House of Councilors.

The creation of the commission comes in line with royal instructions, commitments made by the government, and the recommendations of the first national conference on governance held in 2013, he added.

The committee also aims to develop self-evaluation systems to integrate and unify policies for evaluation into strategic planning procedures. An integrated computer system will be devotedto monitoring and evaluating public policies, as a method strengthening the commission.

El Othmani explained that the computer system aims to “equip the government with an advanced mechanism to assess the level of achievement in relation to the objectives drawn in the various sectors and to measure the level of coherence and effectiveness of strategies and programs.”

In a speech on Saturday on the occasion of Throne Day, King Mohammed VI lashed out at the political elite, telling them they must take their responsibilities seriously or quit public office.

The King’s speech heavily criticized politicians and other public officials, who he said have neither followed up with development policies and projects in the kingdom nor properly done their duties.

In response, El Othmani said that it is high time for the parties to shape up and adapt to the “political and democratic evolution” of the country.

Commenting on the July 29 speech, El Othmani told news outlet Le360 that the parties must “engage effectively” in the political scene to serve the greater good of the citizens and the nation
