Arab Today, arab today Moussa: SCAF doesn't need safe exit

Cairo – Mohamed Shennawy

"In my opinion, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) is not accused of any crime to need a safe exit," said Amr Moussa, Former Secretary-General of Arab League, and the likely candidate for presidency. "These debates involve accusation when talking about a safe exit, as if there is a criminal. For my part, the role of the SCAF ends on June 30," Moussa said in an interview to Al-Hayat newpaper. He went on, "the SCAF faces accusations, some are true because of the slow decision-making, hesitation or errors, but to accuse the SCAF of committing crimes that need safe exit is an incorrect vision. We should point out the necessary role of the armed forces after the transfer of power, in regards to defining the functions of key institutions in the state, which are determined by the Constitution. " On the tasks of the army in running the country, he said: "First: that main role of the army is to protect the country. Second, to be able to play this role efficiently, arming and funding shall be provided. Third: Army is one of the institutions of the state, not a parallel state, it must behaved accordingly." He added that the SCAF has been performing an unexpected task and shall be thanked for it. He pointed out the risk that Camp David may become an election bargaining chip. Moussa denied the distance of perspective between him and the Tahrir Square, saying: "I am proud of my history in the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Arab League."
