KABUL - Arabstoday

NATO announced today that forces operating under its command in Afghanistan killed a policeman and a young woman in a raid on a place they suspected to be the hideout of a Taliban commander in the east of the country. NATO said in a statement in this connection that the joint forces (NATO and Afghan forces) ringed a compound in Nangarhar province last night believing that a Taliban leaders was hiding in it. The statement said that a man threatened the troops with a pistol when asked to vacate the building, but the man was killed when troops resorted to "self-defence ". It was found that he was an Afghan police member. The statement said the troops fired at a person running in the rear of the building and apparently carrying a weapon but the "troops discovered then they fired at an unarmed young Afghani woman."
