Saida in the south of Lebanon has witnessed an explosion on Wednesday. The explosive device weighed about 6 kg and was TNT. The army discovered the bomb when they suspected a package placed inside a cardboard box, in the garage of the Hijazi residential center, located in Jerusalem Square in Saida, across the building where Sheikh Maher Hammood, Imam of al-Quds mosque, lives. Upon citizens’ reports, the Lebanese army surrounded and evacuated the area. An explosives expert was called in to examine the contents of the cardboard box, which was later revealed to have contained a cellular phone attached to a battery. Security sources told ‘Arabstoday’ that the military expert stated the box contained a highly advanced explosive device, linked to an electric detonator which starts when the cellular phone rings.
