Salem al-Obeidi the murderer of General Abdel Fattah Younis has escaped from Alkwyfah prison in Benghazi. Security officials in the prison said "unknown militants attacked the prison to release Salem”. The official is banned from speaking publicly so spoke anonymously to Arabtoday "a large group of militants attacked the prison Tuesday night exactly after Iftar, while officials were busy preparing for the meal". "there are no injuries amongst prison staff or militants. The interior, defense, and foreign ministry have been informed of the case, but officials have hidden the issue from the media to avoid confusion and chaos in the country” The official added that the "security situation in Benghazi is very fragile in this period of time as there is a mass terrorism network trying to attack Benghazi.” "The prison was attacked last week by an RPG shell which hit the back wall without any human injuries. The criminals escaped because the guards were at the front wall at the time and not the back wall". Major General Abdel Fattah Younis was an interior minister in the Gaddafi regime but joined the anti-regime uprising last year and was killed in July 2011.
