The Saudi armed forces are set to take part in the “Arab Shield-1” drill, which will begin today in Egypt, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Armed forces from the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Egypt will take part in the three-week joint military exercise.

The commander of the Saudi forces assigned to take part in the drill, Brig. Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Subaie, said that all land, air, sea and air defense forces selected for the maneuver have completed preparedness.

He said the drill is part of the Saudi Defense Ministry’s plans to train members of the armed forces.

Saudi Arabia recently concluded a joint military drill with the US and Sudan. The aim of the exercises “Shield of Prevention-2” and “Determination 1” was to support security, stability and cooperation in the region.

Participants of the exercises carried out a number of tasks including inspections of hazardous materials, sampling procedures, training of explosive disposal teams, as well as the training of medical units on the mechanism for treating, clearing and evacuating large numbers of people affected in the aftermath of a crisis.
