The Security Council membership committee held its first meeting on Friday, to consider the request for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state. The committee will issue its report on the Palestinian membership demand within two weeks, according to the UN Security Council president on Friday. Many diplomats agreed on the need to deal with the issue seriously. The UK ambassador in the Security Council, Mark lyall Grant, said: "It was a good meeting, and we discussed our positions, particularly with respect to procedural issues." The Committee which consists of 15 members and responsible to study the membership issue and report back to the Security Council, held its first meeting on Friday to review the Palestinian demand for the recognition of their state. The French Ambassador to the United Nations, Gerard Aro, expected that the experts will study the aspects of the Palestinian request next week before they submit their report to the Security Council.
