The Israeli “Ofer” Military Court ordered on Tuesday the administrative detention of the Speaker of Palestinian Legislative Council PLC in Gaza Aziz Dweik for six months without charges. The court had previously decided to stay the deliberations on the case until today, Dweik's lawyer Fadi Qawasmi said. For its part, the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) speaker office condemned the court’s decision, calling it “arbitrary” and saying it exclusively aims to harm Palestine's reconciliation process. The PLC also called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop Dweik's detention and that of the other PLC members detained in Israeli jails.
