Speaker of the Finnish Parliament, Maria Lohela, called on Friday in Helsinki to give new impetus to the relations between her country and Morocco through developing economic and trade partnerships.
"Our relations of friendship are already strong and I hope the two countries can further consolidate their economic cooperation in the future," she said.
Lohela made these remarks at a meeting with Morocco’s ambassador to Finland, Mohamed Ariad, who presented a gift from Morocco’s House of Advisors (upper house) to the Finish official on the occasion of the centenary year of Finnish independence.
In this regard, Lohela underscored the importance of strengthening relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries, particularly through the exchange of visits and consultations.
The Finnish official also welcomed the setting up of a bilateral institutional framework to promote a regular dialogue between Moroccan and Finish MPs.
For his part, Ariad praised the excellent and deep political relations between Morocco and Finland, "two friendly countries that share the values of democracy, openness and the promotion of world peace ".
In this regard, the diplomat said that Moroccan and Finnish economic operators should take advantage of the current dynamics of relations between Rabat and Helsinki in order to forge win-win partnerships in areas of common interest, including new technologies, renewable energies and agriculture.
Morocco, a "reliable partner" of the European Union (EU), has become a leading platform for investment in Africa, he noted.
