Five terrorists of an armed group were killed and high-ranking officer of the army was injured on Wednesday evening in Ben Guerdane, the Tunisian News Agency reported.
The forces attacked a house where terrorists took refuge, Defence Ministry spokesman Belhassen Oueslati said.
Heavy gunfire were exchanged between the National Guard forces and the army, on the one hand, and the terrorist members infiltrated from the Libyan territory who took refuge in a house in Laaouija locality (12 kms from Ben Guerdane), on the other.
Earlier, one person was killed by error during these clashes, a security source told TAP correspondent in the region.
"The victim died from an accidental shot wound in the abdomen," specified the same source. The terrorist group, who infiltrated from the Libyan territory aboard all-terrain vehicles, is made up of ten members, the security source said.
Important security and military reinforcements were dispatched in the region and encircled the clashes zone, the source concluded
