A Bangladeshi peacekeeper was shot on Sunday in South Darfur by gunmen. The African Union/ United Nations Hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID) said in a statement that other people were injured during the violent outbreak. "A gang surrounded and fired at the staff in the mission's community policing centre inside the Otash camp for internally displaced persons. "The armed men fled after the police unit returned fire." They strongly condemned the attack. UNAMID called the Sudanese government to continue their search for the criminals and bring them to justice. They have lost 38 of their peacekeepers in four years. UNAMID spokeswoman Aisha Mndadud said that “attacking UNAMID troops is a war crime according to International Law. “ Former governor of West Darfur Major General Suleiman Abdullah Adam said that "the attack raises a new question about the mission’s ability to control security and keeping peace in the region.” Adam said in his interview to Arabstoday: “The mission has witnessed similar attacks. The decline of security in camps shows that the mission is facing a difficult problem. Adam said in previous statements to Arabstoday that "so many members don’t have sufficient experience to achieve their missions in a difficult area like Darfur.” South Darfur is the area that has seen the biggest number of attacks on mission members.
