Vietnam reported 10,227 traffic accidents in the first six months of this year, which left 4,362 people dead and 8,939 others injured, the country's Traffic Police Department said Friday.

The numbers of traffic accidents, deaths and severe injuries and slight injuries caused by the accidents decreased, respectively, by 8.5 percent, 2.6 percent, 2.6 percent and 15.8 percent from the same period last year.

On average, in the first half of this year, Vietnam each day saw 56 traffic accidents which claimed 24 lives and injured 16 people, down in all the numbers of traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries, said the department.
