Nineteen people were killed and nine others injured when a truck slammed into a bus in southwestern Nigeria, police said Thursday. The truck driver ran away after the head-on collision on Wednesday near Akure, the capital of Ondo State, a state police spokesman said. "Nineteen died on the spot, nine injured (were) rushed to state hospital," spokesman Adeniran Aremu said in a statement to AFP. The truck driver's apprentice was arrested, he said. Newspaper reports said he lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole and it collided with the overloaded bus.
