New Delhi - Arab Today

Two college students in India have been charged with attempted murder following an alleged “ragging” incident in May involving a woman from a poor community.
The students allegedly forced the woman, Aswathi, to drink toilet cleaner. After the case was filed with police, action was initiated against the culprits.
“They tortured me. They used to make fun of me, calling me names like ‘black girl’ and ‘charcoal’ and saying my appearance scared them. They came to my room that day, told me I was arrogant, and forced me to drink toilet cleaner,” she said.
College authorities sent her back to Kerala, where she is being treated in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. She is still in critical condition.
The doctors treating her have suggested that Awastha would require a surgery after a six-month long treatment to improve the condition of her gullet, which has been severely damaged by the chemical.
Awastha belongs to an economically weaker Dalit family, residing in Pulluvan Padiyil region of Edappal district. Her mother has appealed Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to take action in the case.
A 13-member investigation team has been formed which is probing the incident. The role of college authorities is also being probed.
